Sydney Blu is now one of Canada’s leading female DJ’s. Whether pounding hard tribal progressive beats out to her fans at her afterhours residencies or making the crowd groove to her funky deep house, she can rock any crowd that is ready to move. After being voted “Best New DJ of 2002” Eye Magazine Poll, Toronto, Canada, Sydney is only going in one direction and that is up.
After living in Ottawa, Canada’s capital, for most of her college years, Joanne Hill aka DJ Sydney Blu decided to take a long time hobby and turn it into a career. She moved to Toronto in 2000 with a plan to stay temporarily and within two months was being asked to play events all over the city. Within just a year of living in Toronto, Sydney gained an enormous following and was credited to be the fastest rising DJ in the city.
In the last two years Sydney has definitely made her mark in North America.
Her energetic sets have blown fans and promoters away, making her a weekly
and monthly resident of many events she has played. She has headlined
two major festivals, one in Las Vegas and the other in Halifax, both
having 4000 + people.
Sydney has played amongst many world famous djs and rocked many world class clubs in North America. Sydney is the resident of Cargo, which is the number one company for events in Western Canada. The Guvernment, System Sound Bar, The Pheonix Concert Theatre, Fashion Cares at the Toronto Convention centre are just a few of the local Toronto venues and events she plays. Also, her long time Saturday night afterhours residency Film Lounge, has been her main residency since its opening 3 years ago. After touring many Canadian and American cities over the last few years including Las Vegas, New York City, San Francisco, Miami, Halifax, Vancouver and many more, Sydney will be continuing to travel North America and will be extending her tour dates this summer to Europe.
Sydney has taken part and hosted many events that have taken place in her home town Toronto and in Miami at the Winter Music Conference. She hosted her own night for two years called Feeling Blu Thursdays that featured herself and other musicians and singers performing deep house live. Also Sydney is currently main resident of Beba in Toronto with a live drummer and different weekly themes and events.
If you haven’t had the pleasure of seeing Miss Blu perform you probably will soon. She’ll be bringing her sounds and charm to a dance floor near you.
